| 2002, die Loveparade liegt in ihren letzten Atemzügen, das Musikgenre Techno hat sich größtenteils in kleine Stilrichtungen aufgelöst und die Welt erblickt jeden Monat erblickt ein neues Label, das sich elektronischer Musik widmet. Ein neuer Stil ist Mode geworden, Electro, der mit seinen verschobenen Beats und synthetischer Sterilität an die Anfänge der elektronischen Musik in den 80er Jahren erinnert. Viele bekannte Künstler haben sich diesen Stil angeeignet, die Veröffentlichungen sind kaum mehr zu überblicken. In dieser Masse an Kreationen gelingt es nur wenigen Künstlern herauszustechen. Einige versuchen es durch schrille Auftritte oder ausgefallene Videoproduktionen, andere erregen Aufmerksamkeit durch Geheimnistuerei um die eigene Person. Einem kleinen Electro - Label aus Südfrankreich gelingt es jedoch, ihr musikalisches Schaffen und die dafür nötige Produktion zum Gesamtkunstwerk zu erheben. Invasion Planete heißt das Projekt von zwei ehemaligen Kunststudenten, die unter den Pseudonymen A// und Rollinka an die öffentlichkeit treten. Diese haben ihre eigene, künstlerische Philosophie über Herstellung, Vertrieb und Bewerbung der meist eigenen Platten. Kunst, so umschreibt der Labelgründer Alexandre (A//) den schwer zu definierenden Begriff, seien die intensivsten Gefühle, die einen Menschen durch das Leben leiten. Seiner Ansicht nach handelt es sich danach um Sex, Tod und Gewalt, also den programmatischen Inhalt eines jeden Privatsenders, der auf Quote aus ist. Und Kunst drückt sich gerne in Musik aus. Dieses Credo, gepaart mit der Guerillaphilosophie eines Künstlers, der sein Talent nicht durch die etablierten Plattenindustrie vertreten sieht, ergibt die Mixtur, die Invasion Planete zu einem hochinteressanten Projekt macht. Alles ist erlaubt, keine Imagepflege muss betrieben werden, um den Absatz der musikalischen Erzeugnisse zu garantieren. Schaffen ist alles. A// und Rollinka, die Köpfe hinter dieser Idee, die 1998 ins Leben gerufen wurde, lernten sich an der Kunsthochschule Beaux Arts zu Toulouse kennen. Bereits zu Studienzeiten begannen sie mit der Organisation kleiner Events, an denen sie sich elektronischer Musik widmeten, die außerhalb des damalig engen Spektrums zwischen Techno und House lag. Nach dem Studium erfolgte die Labelgründung und in den vier Jahren des Bestehens erregte Invasion Planete auch international immer mehr Aufmerksamkeit und gewann eine stetig wachsende Fangemeinde. Doch paradoxerweise scheint dies die ehemaligen Kunststudenten nicht zu erfreuen. Unter dem momentanen Hype rund um das Musikgenre Electro, so Labergründer A//, leide die Musik. Anerkannte Stücke kleinerer Bands werden gekauft, kopiert und verhökert, um der Nachfrage nach Hits gerecht zu werden. Musik wird somit seiner Meinung nach kommerzialisiert, kleinere Künstler, die mit ihrem Werk nicht in den erzeugten Mainstream passen, außen vorgelassen. Bewusst entscheiden sich Invasion Planete für ihren Sonderweg als Gesamtkunstwerk. Auf ihrer Homepage werben sie mit grellen Bildern für ihre Platten, die Künstler zeigen sich vermummt, bewaffnet, die Musikindustrie bedrohend. Ihre Interviews sind streckenweise so extrem, dass der Unterschied zwischen Künstler und Person undeutlich wird. Doch wer genau hinsieht, entdeckt hinter der düsteren Fassade der Gesellschafts- und Konsumkritik auch einen Funken Selbstironie. "Eines Tages" sagt A//, "wird in jeder größeren europäischen Stadt ein Denkmal errichtet sein, das A// würdigt. Die Inschrift wird lauten ‚vielleicht war er utopisch, aber wenigstens hatte er Werte'". |
| S: You started in an Art School/ University. May you describe your beginnings there and how your studies may have influenced you? A//: Yes, me and Rollinka were in the "Beaux-Art" in Toulouse. ( That's the reason why I left Paris and came to southern France: to do art studies in a good school...i believed that!) It was in 1994 ...I met Rollinka there ( she was in Architecture section / I was in Art section ). We have decided to organize some underground electronic parties together only for 'engaged' people...We didn't want to see ravers or techno house junkies at our place. Why? ...just because it was not their place ! and they didn't belong to our culture (musical background )... Of course there were not a lot of people at our nights...We were too straight, different, minimal, clinic...and disturbing ! At this period, everybody liked Detroit Techno and house with big beat (!) It was not our way, simply. We liked weird sound, minimal synth, slow music without humanity, syncopated rhythms...Anyway, it was just the music we listened since our childhood: Kraftwerk, Front 242, Moroder, Ceronne and some funny stuff like French bands : Ellie and Jacno etc...A strange mix ( -up) ! We didn't care about the avant-garde or whatever...We just played what we were feeling and we tried to create an atmosphere during the events...In fact, without real consciousness: we were one of the first to play Electro ( 100%) , not the same Electro music which people heard during Ebm-Gothic party at this period; I mean the new kind of current Electro...Sometimes Dark, sometimes funny and light, sometimes a kind of industrial sound...always minimal ,clean and not loud ! Our studies had no influence on the music which we did or played... The only one good thing you can learn in Beaux -Art is : If you do something...BE ENGAGED and don't try to be pleasant with your neighbours...If you have a talent, people will take a look on you one day ( pretentious concept, I know, but it's the mind of an Art School in France. I think it's not so stupid ) S: How would you describe "art" and what role plays "art" in the music released on INVASION PLANETE? A//:As I said : Sex, violence and death are in our D.N.A...Life is violent, Art is Life ,Art is violent...and of course, Music is Art, so... It's a kind of philosophy hidden behind the acts you do everyday...If you get this feeling, you get a kind of truth about the world and the events around you. I think it's a kind of force you can also practice on the others. Invasion Planete is not just a simple label, it's an artistic and complete movement. S: Rollinka also paints. Which role play this paintings in your live gigs? A//:?...No real role, sorry... Rollinka never bring her paintings during a gig ( it's not the place for that )...and it would be difficult. The sizes of her acrylic on canvas are a little bit too big. Sometimes we play in Art Galleries...That's a good place, of course ! In this case the music is in a second plan, it 's just to intensify the exposed plastic works. S:What lead to the founding of INVASION PLANETE? A//:We wanted to make the sound which we have never heard before ( same thing for the graphics and the website...) And we like to be free in the creation...We like to wake up everyday in this way of life. Invasion Planete save our life and it will save the world (...maybe Willy too) ! Ah! Ah! S: Regarding the Hompage of your label, the watcher is confronted with men handling weapons, S/M scenes and other "disturbing" images...What is your intention showing these? A//:The old website version...Now, it's the continuation of this first "red - white and black" work. I like the violence and his images, icons...so I use these codes to create my universe. My intention is to provocate a reaction in the head of the watcher...maybe a little flame. Good or bad is not my problem...People are so contemplative: Here is my problem ! I like propaganda because: I am a dictator. S: To put it in a nutshell, what is the concept behind INVASION PLANETE? A//: Create a new kind of humans who believe in some values. I am fed up with these consumers who are masturbating in front of fashion models wearing expensive shoes, clothes, looking MTV and play with their Play Station. I don't like the techno-generation, I think. The name Invasion Planete is my reply to " they live", the movie from John Carpenter. S: What's the fascination of b-movies? A//:B-movies are a real passion...I think it's the cause i make music ! As I say everytime; one of my absolute master is John Carpenter for his minimal b.o.(fantastic!!! I 'm going crazy...) and his first- movies ! Cinema is a true passion for me. If I can, I will produce a short movie in a near future! B-movie or Z-movie ( it's really good too). I will do the soundtracks too, of course ... |
